1. What is the Meaning of the Minimum Wage in Morocco?
The legal minimum wage means:
"The minimum value due to the employee, which guarantees employees with low income an appropriate purchasing power to keep pace with the development of price levels, contribute to economic and social development, and develop the enterprise" (Paragraph 1 of Article 358 of the Labor Code).
The minimum wage in Morocco is legally determined by a regulatory text (decree) published in the Official Gazette after consulting the professional organizations of employers and the most representative trade union organizations of employees. This is stipulated in Article 356 of the Labor Code, which states:
"The legal minimum wage in agricultural and non-agricultural activities cannot be less than the amounts determined by a regulatory text, after consulting the professional organizations of employers and the most representative trade union organizations of employees."
2. What is the Minimum Wage Amount in Agricultural and Non-Agricultural Activities in Morocco?
The minimum wage in the Labor Code varies depending on the activity in which the employee subject to this code operates, distinguishing between agricultural and non-agricultural activities.
The minimum wage amounts in Morocco currently for the year 2026, according to the latest increase for private sector employees and those generally subject to the Labor Code, are determined through the provisions of Decree No. 2.25.983 issued on December 29, 2025, as follows:
(A) In Agricultural Activities
☛ The Rule: The wage paid in agricultural activity is calculated on the basis of a workday (Paragraph 2 of Article 358 of the Labor Code).
The amount of the legal minimum wage, starting from April 1, 2026, in the agricultural sector, according to the aforementioned decree, is set as follows:
- 97.44 MAD (ninety-seven dirhams and forty-four centimes) for each workday in agricultural activities.
- Meaning that the gross monthly minimum wage (26 days) in this sector (Salaire Minimum Agricole Garanti), abbreviated as (SMAG Mensuel), is: 2533.44 MAD.
- ▶ After deducting the total dues of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) (162.96 MAD), the real net monthly wage for the employee (Salaire net à Payer) becomes: a minimum of 2370.48 MAD (Approximately $235 / €218). (For comparison: in 2025, the minimum in these activities was 2,255.04 MAD).
(B) In Non-Agricultural Activities
☛ The Rule: The wage paid in non-agricultural activities is calculated on the basis of a work hour (Paragraph 2 of Article 358 of the Labor Code).
The amount of the legal minimum wage, starting from January 1, 2026, in the non-agricultural sector (industrial, commercial, artisanal, service...), according to the aforementioned decree, is set as follows:
- 17.92 MAD (seventeen dirhams and ninety-two centimes) for each work hour in non-agricultural activities.
- Meaning that the gross monthly minimum wage (based on 191 hours per month) in this sector (Salaire Minimum Interprofessionnel Garanti), abbreviated as (SMIG Mensuel), is: 3422.72 MAD.
- ▶ After deducting the total dues of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) (220.13 MAD), the real net monthly wage for the employee (Salaire net à Payer) becomes: a minimum of 3202.59 MAD (Approximately $318 / €295). (For comparison: in 2025, the minimum in these activities was 3045.97 MAD).
⚠ Reminder!
- The figures mentioned above represent the minimum wages in the private sector in Morocco according to the latest updates published in the Official Gazette.
- Any agreement, whether individual or collective, aimed at reducing the wage below the legal minimum is considered null and void by operation of law (Article 360 of the Labor Code). Conversely, a wage higher than this limit can be mutually agreed upon.
